Now it's your turn!

During the past few lessons, our focus has been on all of the different jobs which need to be done before an advert is produced. You have been researching advertisements, analysing the techniques used by different advertisers and considering the role of audience in the making of an advert.

Now it's time to make a print advertisement of your own!

Activity 1:

Choose one product from the list below (this is a list of items most commonly purchased over the internet). All of these options are very open-ended, so that you can choose a lot of the details for yourself (eg. if you are doing the 'New Book' then you can choose what genre of book it is):

1. A Type of Food / Snack

2. Holidays

3. A New Book

4. A Music Festival

5. A Brand of Clothing

6. A Games Console

7. A New Album

8. A New Film in the Cinema

9. The DVD Release of a Film

10. A New Car

Once you have picked your advertisement, start a Word Document with the title 'Media Advert - Planning Stage'.

For the product you have chosen, fill in all of the follwing information:

Product Type: (what are you going to be selling?)

Audience: (what can you tell me about the people you will be marketting this product to? Are they rich? Young? Male or female? Do you know anything about what their insterests will be?)

Examples: (find at least three adverts which advertise similar products... write a few brief notes about what works well in these adverts and any ideas on how you think they could have been made better).

Approach: (How are you going to market your advert to your specific audience? You must mention colour, image, layout, slogan, and where you think this advert should be placed to have maximum effect).

Extension Task:

Now you have a working plan for your advertisement, have a go at sketching a first draft of what it may look like. You can do this using imaging software on the computers or sketching it on paper depending on what you would prefer.
